Weeks run Monday to Sunday, and any part of a week counts as a full week. The higher weekly rate applies from the week of a child's 11th birthday.

You only need expenses if your care income is more than your tax-free amount. Then you can choose the method that gives the lower profit: the simplified one (income minus the tax-free amount) or the normal one (income minus real expenses). Keeping them lets the app compare both.
